Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
I knew I always wanted to be involved in some aspect of writing, whether it was fiction, non-fiction, etc. At one point in my life I was interested in a public relations career which would have involved writing press releases, etc.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
Around the age of twelve, when I wrote a series of short fiction stories.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
Decades, which is what it took for the self-publishing genre to really take flight and enable me to finally realize my dreams.
Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
I worked for many years in the financial services industry and then switched to producing running events. I’m still involved with the running and road racing community, though it’s largely on a volunteer basis these days.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
My newest release is called Splendor, and to summarize it in less than 20 words I would call it “a steamy, unapologetically romantic love story that was always meant to be”.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
I self-publish but use the services of a company called Bookbaby, who helps to format the book, distributes it to a variety of retailers, and offers marketing tips and services.
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
Generally four to six months.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
More books in the same genre. I’m planning a total of six standalone books in the Inevitable series plus two novellas. Each of the standalones will have its own hero/heroine.
What genre would you place your books into?
Contemporary Romance
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
It gave me the most flexibility in terms of plots, locations, characters, dialog, etc. I didn’t want to do all the research needed to write historical romance, and I don’t have an active enough imagination to write paranormal.
Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?
I’m sort of half in love with the hero - Ian - of my current book Splendor. He’s my favorite because he is pretty much everything you’d ever want in a man plus he’s a true romantic at heart.
How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
I’ve been writing in one form or another since I was about twelve, whether it was fiction, essays, articles, etc. As far as writing romance, I’ve been inspired to write my own book ever since reading my first romance novels back when I was a teenager. I cut my teeth on some of the grande dames of romance, including Kathleen Woodiwiss, Rosemary Rogers, and Sandra Brown.
Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
I do most of writing in my home office sitting at my desk. I like to have quiet when I write, no music or TV or other distractions.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
I do, even though I cringe a little at some of the negative ones. But you have to take the good with the bad, realize when someone is making a valid point versus just nitpicking, and accepting that people have widely varying tastes so not everyone is going to love what you wrote.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?
The plots of the books evolved first, then the title, then the actual writing.
How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
I have a great book of baby names, left over from when I had my own daughter many years ago. When selecting names for the main characters I’ll generally make a list of names for each that seem to suit their personalities and then narrow it down from there. In regards to place names, I like to set my stories in places that are familiar to me, or at least ones that I’ve visited.
Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?
The characters are definitely formed first, then their names are decided upon based on what would seem to suit them best.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?
No, definitely before since that is such an intricate part of the plot.
Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")
The idea behind naming this series of books Inevitable was that it was, in fact, inevitable that these two people were meant for each other all along.
Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?
I love eBooks for a variety of reasons – ability to download and read on demand without having to wait for a book in the mail or hope a retailer has it in stock; no need to worry about how I’m going to cram one more volume on my already overloaded bookshelves; and then certainly from an environmental perspective, since I’m a huge environmentalist and a staunch believer in “save the trees”.
What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
I love “After The Night” by Linda Howard and also the whole Crossfire series from Sylvia Day. I’ve read both of these multiple times because of their great character development, interesting plots, and super steamy sex.
Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?
I don’t think they transfer well because of the time constraints with movies. You can’t possibly cover everything contained within a 400 page book into a 120-minute movie, especially since it’s tough to convey the descriptive parts of a book into a movie. My favorite book to movie transfer was probably the Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice. And even though it hasn’t released yet I’m afraid the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey is going to be something of a letdown, due to the three books into one movie conversion plus I’m not a great fan of the casting choices.

Chocolate, in most every conceivable form or recipe
