He sits in front of me and brings me to his chest. Our flesh is hot and sticky where it touches and I can’t stop the ache between my legs. His breathing is ragged and he tightens his grip on the back of my head as he tries to slow it. I am hurt or angry or frustrated, but I don’t know which. He runs his hands along my entire body and I push against him, needing him and not knowing how to accept his denial.
‘I want you, Nora. I have wanted you since I saw you. You are gorgeous. However, there are secrets that… Please understand, the steps that you want to take will reveal things. This cannot end well for either of us. I don’t want to make you suffer, but I am fated to suffer. Don’t make me bring you with me into the darkness. I can’t bear to lose you.’
I sense the pain that grips him. The darkness that he speaks of sounds frightening, but I don’t feel fear when I face him and meet his eyes. ‘I will follow you anywhere. Dark or light. Stop trying to make my choices for me.’
Our lips meet again, but it is with doubt. Neither of us knows what will happen if we are to move forward, but I want to have a chance to find out.
My body is still crying out for him but now my mind is calm. I want him, but I want him when he knows that I’m ready for whatever that means. His hands touch me and his caresses are soft. We both slow our breathing and I try to let my will match his. When he pulls away, he gathers the picnic and looks at me with longing and a hunger I do not recognize. It’s not sexual, but desperate. Almost as a dying man looks in the last moments of his life.
‘In three days,’ he says, ‘I will meet you again at the church where we first met. In the meantime, I want you to look something up — and if you do not appear at the church, I’ll know that what you found changed everything.’

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
Yes and no. I always wrote and writing was natural for me, but I never saw it as something I could ever really do.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
I don’t consider myself a writer. To me, a writer can make a living off it and is part of some kind of writing community. I’m just a girl who wrote some books.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
Actually my first book I tried to get published was this one and it was accepted by almost every publisher to which I submitted it.
Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
I do a lot of things – I work three jobs and writing costs me more than it makes. I have mostly decided to leave my personal life in my personal life at this point.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
Since we are touring, I assume you mean Bitter Fruits. I would say it’s New Adult vampire romance urban fantasy with a Biblical twist.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
I do both. This novel is published with Escape, an imprint of Harlequin/Harper Collins.
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
It depends. I’ve finished books in a couple months and others are still glaring at me after a few years.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
I’m actually releasing a YA fantasy soon and I think I’m going to step away from romance for a while.
What genre would you place your books into?
I have no idea. This is urban fantasy romance, I guess. My others are contemporary New Adult. I would call them realistic fiction, but that’s not a genre. They’re not romance, though, because they’re honest and the love story is a real love story about what it’s like to try to survive.
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I read in every genre. I don’t actually read a lot of romance, because I don’t like it. I don’t like the simplicity of it. Life isn’t that way. That’s why none of my books are simple.
Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?
Either Katie from Backward Compatible, since she’s basically me, or Jack from the Flowering series. He and I also share a lot of traits, but he’s dark and Katie is entertaining and nerdy.
How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
I have been writing my entire life. I’ve been publishing as Sarah for a little more than a year.
Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
Not at all.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
I don’t read any. I find myself frustrated at how much people miss and it makes me wonder why they are reviewing books if they don’t actually read them but just skim.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?
Titles come later.
How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
The characters tell me their names. In this case, I knew they had to begin with C and A, for reasons clear in the novel.
Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?
No, the characters come to me and tell the story.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?
Sometimes, depending on what the premise of the story is. Like in Backward Compatible, it was clearly going to be a geek love story, so I knew her traits.
Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")
The entire Flowering series is called that because it’s about a journey and growth. It really is meant to be read in order, with all six titles, or so much is lost.
Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?
Paperback
What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
The Sun Also Rises because it’s painful yet beautiful.
Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?
No, not at all most of the time. Some aren’t done poorly, like The Hunger Games, but they’re soulless. Others like The Lovely Bones are epic disasters. I did love Silver Linings Playbook probably more than the book.
