Welcome to Darkest Cravings, tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’ve had about 50 books published and this is my first romantic suspense with paranormal elements. Aside from writing and reading, I volunteer with Animal Rescue Foundation and save pets from kill shelters, then find good homes for them.

I have a keen interest in psychics and the paranormal.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

I felt like a writer when I was in high school and started writing for the school newspaper.

Writing adult fiction isn’t for everyone, how did you end up writing for the toughest audience?

I don’t consider it the “toughest” audience. Never thought of it that way. I’m an adult and so I just started writing what I liked to read.

Most of the intimidating parts of being an adult fiction writer is the steamy scenes, how did you overcome the “stage fright”?

Sex scenes were never much of a problem for me until I wrote this new book and I decided to “up the ante” and go for a more erotic, adults-only kind of book. I read a lot of erotica as if they were textbooks (that’s the best way to learn to write, by the way). Then I just went for it. My first draft, however, was still timid. My agent said I should “sh** or get off the pot.” So, on the next draft I didn’t worry about “is this too much? Should I write that word?” I just wrote the sex scenes and had fun with them.

Which fictional character would you like to go on a date with? Why?

I’d like to date James Bond and let him teach me a few things. J Then I would reciprocate.

What was the first adult fiction novel that you read? What was your reaction?

I think it was “Dr. No.” I wasn’t supposed to be reading it, but I found it among my big sister’s stuff and I read parts of it. I loved it! But I knew it was “nasty” somehow. Something to do with sex…but I was too young to actually “get it.” Then I read “The Moonspinners” by Mary Stewart and became a romance fan for life.

Your favorite adult fiction book is-?

“The Moonspinners.” It turned my life around and made me want to be a novelist.

Your favorite Author is-?

I don’t have a favorite. I have many favorites. Mary Stewart, Stephen King, Truman Capote, Mia Sheridan, E.L. James, LaVyrle Spencer, Margaret Mitchell, J.K. Rowling.

We all have a treasured possession, what is yours?

My sense of humor.

Are your characters based on real people or did you create them from scratch?

They are mostly based on real people. I create them from scratch, but borrow stuff from real people – personality quirks, facial characteristics, etc.

Do you think adult fiction have reached its full potential yet, or are we still in for a huge surprise?

Fiction Is always evolving as humans evolve.

Do you think adult fiction helps improves relationships?

Yes, I think it can. There are always lessons to learn in every book. Your mind and heart just has to be open to them.

If you have to pitch adult fiction to someone that’s too shy to read it, what would you pitch?

I can’t imagine being too shy to read anything. A book never harmed a soul. However, I have known women (and men) who were embarrassed to let people see that they were reading a romance or an erotic book. That infuriates me. If you’re reading ANYTHING you’re ahead of the game! Especially today.

What is your motto?

“Don’t wait for your ship to come in. Swim for it!”
